Experiencing the Magic of Giffoni Film Festival 2024
The Giffoni Film Festival in Giffoni, Italy, is more than just a film event—it’s a celebration of stories, cultures, and connections. This year, from July 18th to July 27th, 2024, a delegation from Pakistan, selected through the Lahore International Children’s Film Festival (LICFF), had the incredible opportunity to participate. The team, led by chaperone Umair Mushtaq from The Little Art, included three passionate jurors: Ramya Hassan, Dua Shazib, and Menaal Kashif.
From the very first day, Giffoni welcomed us into its vibrant world. Films from across the globe brought diverse perspectives to the screen, tackling themes of identity, resilience, and hope. The Q&A sessions with filmmakers were a highlight, allowing us to understand the deeper messages behind each story. The experience wasn’t just about watching films; it was about engaging with them, questioning narratives, and sharing our own viewpoints.
But Giffoni is more than just films—it’s an unforgettable cultural exchange. Our jurors were hosted by local Italian families, experiencing authentic traditions, language, and of course, delicious food! The picturesque streets of Giffoni Valle Piana, the warmth of new friendships, and the energy of thousands of young cinephiles made every moment special.

Here’s what our 2024 participants had to say:
RAMYA HASSAN (16 Years Old, Lahore)
Stepping into Giffoni felt like stepping into a whole new world! I met people from different countries, each with their own stories and backgrounds, yet we all connected over our love for cinema. Watching films that challenged my perspectives, discussing them with international jurors, and sharing ideas made me feel like a part of something bigger. Giffoni has changed the way I see films—and the world.
DUA SHAZIB (16 Years Old, Lahore)
At first, I was nervous about traveling without my family, but Giffoni felt like home from the very start. Living with a host family, trying new foods, and adapting to a new culture helped me grow in ways I never expected. One of my favorite moments was the festival’s final night—standing with my new friends, reflecting on all we had experienced. It was an emotional farewell, but I know I’ve made friendships for life.
MENAAL KASHIF (16 Years Old, Lahore)
Giffoni was the adventure of a lifetime! Every day was filled with excitement—watching powerful films, voting as a juror, and exploring the beautiful streets of Campania. The festival showed me that cinema is a universal language, bringing people together no matter where they come from. I’m so grateful to The Little Art for making this dream a reality.
