A Journey Through Cinema and Culture: Our GIFFONI Film Festival Experience

The Giffoni Film Festival in Campania, Italy, is a haven for film lovers. We attended the 53rd festival from July 19th to July 31st, 2023, as a delegate from Pakistan selected through the Lahore International Children’s Film Festival (LICFF). The screenings offered a glimpse into diverse cultures and tackled important social issues, showing the power of cinema to inspire dialogue.

Q&A sessions after the films allowed us to engage with filmmakers, providing insights into their creative processes and challenges. Beyond the films, the stunning landscapes of Campania, including the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, made each day an adventure.

The Giffoni Film Festival is more than a film event; it’s a journey through cinema and culture and as they say it Giffoni Experience.

Here’s what our 2023 participants had to say:

MUHAMMAD TALHA  (15 Years Old, Multan)

The Giffon Film Festival was a magical experience, thanks to The Little Art. As a film lover, I was thrilled to attend, and the festival exceeded my expectations.

Set in a charming town with cobblestone streets and cozy cafes, the atmosphere was vibrant with cinephiles from all over. Conversations flowed about films, filmmakers, and storytelling, making the event feel like a scene from a heartwarming movie.

Between screenings, I explored the bustling festival grounds, enjoying local treats and meeting fellow film enthusiasts. By the end of the nine days, my heart was filled with joy and new memories. The team at The Little Art in Pakistan supported us every step of the way, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience. I can’t wait to continue working with them and reach new milestones.

Ibrahim Bin Atif (14 Years old, Multan)

When I heard about Giffoni, I thought it was just a film festival, but it turned out to be so much more. As a 14-year-old who had never traveled without my parents, I was nervous. But The Little Art Organization made it easy for me.

Giffoni was an amazing experience. I had a fantastic host family, made friends from different cultures, watched diverse movies, toured the city, and tried all kinds of food. The festival’s approach of bringing together kids from various countries in the same activities and attire showed that we’re all equal and should be treated with the same respect.

One of the most valuable things I learned was how to be independent. Though I had support, I was there as an independent juror, learning to manage on my own, which is an important skill for adult life.

I’m hoping to attend Giffoni again, and I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s an unforgettable experience.
